내선일체의 연장으로서의 만주국 인식-장혁주의 행복한 백성을 중심으로

한국근대문학에서 만주는 두 가지의 의미를 갖고 있다. 하나는 만주에 이주하여 그 곳에서 거주하는 문학인들의 경우로 흔히 재만조선인문학이라고 지칭된다. 다른 하나는 만주에 거주하지 않고 있지만 만주를 자신의 글에서 재현한 경우이다. 만주에 거주하지 않지만 만주를 재현한 문학인들은 매우 많지만 중일전쟁 이후 만주국을 바라보는 시각에 있어 급격한 분화가 이루어진다. 일제의 식민주의 입장에 포섭되어 만주국을 바라보는 이가 있는가 하면, 그것과 길항하면서 포섭되지 않는 이들도 존재하였다. 식민주의에 포섭되지 않은 이민의 시각은 재만조선인은 조선에서 떠나지 않고 살고 싶어 하지만 식민지 자본주의의 전면화 속에서 소작도 제대로 할 수 없어 고향을 등지고 이주할 수밖에 없었다고 보고 있는 것이다. 식민주의에 포섭된 개척의 시각은 재만조선인은 경제적 가난 때문에 고향을 등지고 만주로 이주하는 것이 아니라 동아경제블록 구축이란 국책의 차원에서 새 영역을 일구어 나간다고 보는 것이다. 개척의 시각 안에서도 ‘만선일여’의 시선과 ‘내선일체’의 시선이 존재하는데 후자는 만주국의 이념인 ’오족협화‘와 일본제국의 이념인 ’내선일체‘가 길항할 때 내선일체의 입장에서 서야 한다고 믿는 입장이다. 장혁주가 바로 이러한 입장을 취하였고 장편소설 행복한 백성은 그 대표적인 작품이다.
Abstract
Representation of Manchukuo in Korean modern literature is divided into two types according to the location of writer. One is literature of writer who lived in Manchukuo. Another is literature of writer who lived in Korean Peninsula ruled by Empire Japan or Japan. The latter is also classified according to the collaboration with Yamato Japan. The writer of non-collaboration recognized the immigration of Korean people as the result of Japanese colonialism. The writer of collaboration recognized the immigration of Korean People as the exploitation of East Asian economic bloc steered by Japan. A Korean novelist Chang-Hyukjoo who lived and wrote in Japan published th novel titled An Happy People. This deals with the Korean peasants who immigrated into Manchukuo to exploit and the difficulties that they experience living with the Japanese who immigrated into same village. He depicted the process of overcoming the difference between them and acquiring the idendity of Japanese. This point of view is contrast to Manchukuo policy of the harmony of five races.
