이 논문은 해방과 전후 여성작가들의 소설, 여행기, 산문을 대상으로 미국이나 유럽 등 서양에 대한 심상지리, 한국을 로컬한 것으로 배치하는 상상력을 탐구하였다. 먼저 모윤숙과 김말봉의 미국여행기는 중심 제국의 풍요로움/한국의 미개와 가난이라는 지리적, 물질적, 정서적 로컬의 심상지리를 보여준다. 전후 지적 엘리트를 자임한 여성작가들은 이 차이와 위계를 극복하기 위해 민족의 대표자를 자임한다. 반면 전혜린의 유럽/독일 체류기는 모윤숙과 김말봉의 미국여행기와는 대척점에서 ‘민족(주의)’의 일원으로 수렴되지 않는 실존적 주체를 꿈꿈으로서 주변부 여성지식인의 정체성을 보여준다. 두 번째, 박순녀의 소설 「외인촌 입구」는 로컬에 위치하되 로컬적이지 않은 ‘외인촌’이라는 장소를 통해 전후 한국의 식민 상황을 포착하였다. 반면 김말봉의 『방초탑』은 전형적인 연애서사 형식을 차용하면서 서양을 상상적 볼거리로 전시한다. 텍스트는 표층적으로는 서양의 자유주의와 물질문명을 옹호하지만 심층적으로는 한국적 미와 윤리를 지향하는 로컬적 속성을 띤다. 서사를 규율하는 것은 동양적인 여성미를 체현한 여성주인공, 그리고 동양적 윤리이다. 서양적인 것의 과잉 담론화와 한국적인 것으로의 회귀. 195․60년대 여성작가들의 글쓰기가 보여준 담론적 지평은 세계체제를 향한 지향과 전후 국가주의 재건 사이에서 유동하는 지식인 주체의 분열된 내면에서 비롯된 것이다. 또 이 로컬의 인식, 로컬의 정체성은 여성적인 것의 형상화라는 모종의 젠더 프리즘을 거쳐 구체화됨으로써 남성작가들의 로컬 인식과 차이를 드러낸다.
Abstract
This thesis deals with the imaginary geography about West, and the principle which posits Korea as 'the local'. The texts are women writer's novels, travel essays in 1950's. First, Mo Yunsook and Kim Malbong's travel essays about America show the geographical localism, and material and emotional localism through the binary opposition between abundance of imperial America and uncivilization, poverty of Korea. This intellectual women writers think themselves as the representative of nation overcoming the difference and hierarchy. In the other hand, Jeon Haerin's essays about Europe(Germany) propose the existential subject who isn't reduced by 'nation(alism)'. Second, Park Soon Nyeo's <The Entrance of Foreigner's Village> represents Korea's colonial situation in post-war period through the representation of 'Entrance of Foreigner's Village', the place which is posited in local but isn't local. In the other hand, Kim Malbong's <Bangchotab> exhibits West as the sightseeing through the typical melodramatic narrative. This novel seems to defend the liberalism and materials in the surface structure, but in the deep structure, Korea's oriental beauty and ethics are chosen. The oriental ethics are embodied by female character. The over-discourse about West, and return to Korea. These traits are caused by the intellectual's split inner mind who floats between world system and restoration of nationalism. And the identity of local differs from male writers, because it becomes concrete through the representation of the feminine, that is gender prism.
