안수길의 신문연재 소설에 나타난 연애와 풍속 -『제2의 청춘』과 『부교』를 중심으로-

Abstract

It's required to shed new light on Ahn Soo-kil's novels published in newspapers in the 1950s along with his major work "Bookgando" published in another newspaper in the same period. It could be said that the former novels were published as part of cultural planning efforts to clean up the vestiges of Japanese occupation to open up a new era. In the novels "The Youth" and "Byogyo," the writer described young contemporary people's dating, intergenerational conflicts and intervention, clearing off every vestige of Japanese imperialism, the introduction of new American culture and urban culture, and he revealed his yearning for new culture. Specifically, gorgeous urban culture and the looks of young people who failed in dating and then stay away from it indicate what problems there were with contemporary youth culture. Lim Dong-ho, one of the characters in the novel "Byogyo," was well cultivated and played a major role in mediating the conflicts between the old and new generations, and he is definitely a good example by whom the writer tried to show what well-cultured people should be like in a new era. Although this character tried to cast away all the memories from Japanese occupation, his life was still built on the cultural heritage of early modern times that was based on that age. He was open-minded about the forthcoming new age, but criticized the negative culture of it at the same time. This character who played such an important role could be said as one who was especially chosen by the writer to show what well-cultivated contemporary people should be like. And it could finally be said that the character gave a clue about what the writer thought Korean society should pursue in the 1950s.
