1935년 극예술연구회의 ‘액년⸇䌑’과 그 도정으로서 제8회 정기공연의 의미

Abstract

Geugyesuryeonguhoe founded in July 1931, grew into a representative theater group in the fi rst half of the 1930s. Geugyesuryeonguhoe exhibited seven regular performances and one special performance until December 1934, which enabled them to become ‘mecca’ of the realism theater. However, the situation inside and outside the Korean theater system became complicated in 1935, and Geugyesuryeonguhoe encountered various diffi culties in the production process. Th e main members of Gegyesuryeonguhoe called 1935 an ‘unfortunate time(year)’ because of these diffi culties. Th e 8th regular performance, which was prepared in January 1935, was postponed because the script failed to pass the censorship and the theatrical capacity was insuffi cient. Th us, the eighth regular performance could barely be implemented until November 1935. In the midst of such a difficult time, Geugyesuryeonguhoe is seriously aware of the changed situation of the Korean theater industry, the propensity of the audience, and the revision of the company’s management. And the ‘Geugyesuryeonguhoe’ published a new policy in 1936 and pursued a change that diff erentiated from the fi rst half of the 1930s. Ultimately, this new policy becomes the central goal of Geugyesuryeonguhoe in the late 1930s.
