프랑크 음악에 대한 기존의 연구는 주로 순환형식 즉 선율적인 측면에서 활발하게 논의되고 있을 뿐 조성구조에 대한 논의는 다소 미비하다. 본 연구에서는 프랑크의 후기 기악 작품에서 나타나는 조성구조에 대하여 연구하였으며, 조성구조에서 역시 순환기법이 프랑크의 음악에 존재하고 있음을 논하였다. 즉 제1악장에서 보여주었던 조성구조는 이후의 악장에서 변형 발전됨으로써 조성적 유기성이 나타나며, 결과적으로 조성적 측면에서도 순환형식의 개념이 보여진다. 본 논문에서는 먼저 <피아노5중주 F단조>(1879), <바이올린 소나타 A장조>(1886), <교향곡 D단조>(1888), 그리고 <현악4중주 D장조>(1889)에서 나타나는 순환형식을 살펴봄으로써 각 작품 안에서 나타나는 선율적 유기성을 살펴보았다. 또한 이러한 순환형식의 개념이 조성적으로도 나타나고 있음을 증명하기 위하여 악장 사이에서의 유기적 구조를 분석을 통하여 연구하였다.
Abstract
The recent studies on Franck's music have mainly focused on the cyclic form from the viewpoint of melody, and the discussion on tonal structure has been overlooked. However, the cyclic concept is also applied to tonal structure, especially in some late instrumental music by César Franck (1822-1890). In other words, some tonal relations shown in the opening movement are transformed or developed in the later movements so that the harmonic coherence is formed in Franck's. The first half of this research explores melodic unity applying the cyclic form from Franck's late instrumental music such as Piano Quintet in F minor (1879), Violin Sonata in A Major (1879), Symphony in D minor (1888), and String Quartet in D major (1889). This examination leads, in the second half of the study, to the demonstration of a tonal coherence in movements and even in pieces with the cyclic tonality.
