Abstract
As creativity becomes increasingly recognized as a key driver of national competitiveness, school systems around the world are placing greater emphasis on creativity education. Neuroscientists have paid particular attention to the role of arts education in fostering creativity, and, according to findings in this field, educational approaches that support learning through the arts have gained prominence. The purpose of this study is twofold: 1) to understand the concepts and principles of arts-based teaching and learning methods supported by neuroscience and 2) to provide foundational research in music to guide the development of specific instructional strategies grounded in the arts. To this end, the study first explores recent shifts in teaching and learning theories and, in conjunction with insights from neuroscience, presents a direction for music-integrated instruction grounded in the core principles of brain-based and arts-based learning. It also includes subject-specific lesson examples. These examples are aligned with the 2022 Revised Common Curriculum. For each subject, two thematic areas were selected, and applicable components were identified from the following elements: ① aesthetic experience, ② sensitivity, ③ imagination, ④ expressiveness, and ⑤ pattern recognition. These components were then connected to relevant lesson content. Although implementing arts-based instructional environments may still pose practical challenges, teaching should be supported not only by scientific and theoretical frameworks but also by artistic and emotional foundations. If nurturing emotional sensitivity and creativity is a priority in 21st-century education, educational policy should actively pursue the development and adoption of arts-based teaching methods.
