한국 금석문 조사연구 현황과 과제 －금석문에 대한 선조(先祖)들의 인식과 연구를 중심으로－

국립문화재연구소는 고대부터 조선초기까지의 금석문 2,940건에 대한 탁본 이미지, 개요, 판독문, 해석문을 DB화하고 웹사이트(한국금석문종합영상시스템http://.gsm.nricp.kr) 를 구축하여 2006년부터 서비스하고 있다. 그동안 이 사이트는 금석문 연구자들에게 유용하게 활용되는 한편 자료 업데이트, 탑재된 정보에 대한 오류 수정 등 지속적인 관심과 요구를받아 왔다. 또한, 2013년 문화재청은 전국 금석문 목록조사 결과에 의해 우리나라에11,500여건의 금석문이 소재되어 있다고 밝힌 바 있다. 이런 점들을 종합적으로 고려하여연구소는 올해부터 ‘한국 금석문 학술정보 구축’을 시작하였다. 금석문만이 지니고 있는 역사적 가치와 학술적 활용성이 크기 때문에 이 과제의 추진을 지지하고 성원하는 연구자들도많지만, 반면에 그렇지 않은 이들도 적지 않다. 이에, 본 논문은 금석문이 역사적으로 어떻게 인식되고, 연구되어 왔는지에 대한 고찰을 통해서 금석문의 중요성과 금석문 학술정보 구축의 필요성을 환기시키고자 하였다.
Abstract
We at the National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage (NRICH) have created a database of images of rubbed copies of 2,940 epigraphs ranging from the ancient period to the early Joseon period, along with their summaries and interpretations. We have also operated a website (http://.gsm.nricp.kr) since 2006 to enable anyone who is interested to access these materials. The users have asked us to update the materials and correct any errors in them. In 2013, the Cultural Heritage Administration (CHA) disclosed that the country possesses more than 11,500 epigraphs that have been handed down through the years. In 2020, we started to accumulate academic information on the country's epigraphs, and many researchers have supported our efforts in recognition of the historic and academic value of such materials. This paper focuses on the need to gather academic information related to epigraphs and on how generations of researchers have viewed and studied them.
