본 연구는 초기 서양 선교사들의 한국 선교 유산을 이해하고, 한국 교회가 오늘날 실천하고 다음 세대에 물려주어야 할 유산을 이해하고자 했다. 본 연구의 주제를 간하배, 한철하, 박형룡, 홍치모, 이상규 등 여러 신학자들이 다루었다. 한국 장로교회의 초기 신학은 미국 개혁주의 전통과북미 부흥 운동의 영향을 받았다. 초기 북미 선교사들은 한국 교회에 다음과 같은 네 가지 유산을 남겼다. 첫째, 초기 선교사들은 성경에 대해 보수적인 관점을 가지고 있었다. 둘째, 그들은 하나님 중심적인 신앙을 강조했다. 셋째, 그들은 신앙을 실천하도록 가르쳤다. 넷째, 그들은 전도와선교에 있어 교파 간 협력을 추구했다.
Abstract
This study sought to understand the legacy of early Western missionaries to Korea, which the Korean church should practice today and pass on to the next generation. A number of theologians, such as Harvie Cann, Cheolha Han, Hyungryong Park, Chimo Hong, and Sangkyu Lee, have looked at the subject of this study. The early theology of the Presbyterian Church in Korea was influenced by the American reformed tradition and the North American revival movement. They study suggests four aspects of the legacy of the early North American missionaries to Korea. Early missionaries held a conservative view of the Bible. They emphasized on God-centered faith. They taught Korean Christians to live out faith. They sought interdenominational cooperation in evangelism and missions.
