Abstract
This study aims to develop a process-oriented assessment tool tailored to the information domain—specifically the areas of digital society and artificial intelligence—within the 2022 Revised Elementary Practical Arts Curriculum. The revised curriculum emphasizes reflection and feedback throughout the learning process rather than focusing solely on outcomes, calling for assessments based on consistent performance criteria. In particular, the information domain has expanded significantly with the inclusion of new content such as programming, data, and artificial intelligence, thereby heightening the need for appropriate assessment tools. A review of prior research identified four core principles of process-oriented assessment: analysis of achievement standards, alignment of learning and assessment, diversification of assessment methods, and provision of feedback. Guided by these principles, the research process included the following steps: analysis of achievement standards, derivation of assessment criteria, establishment of achievement levels (A/B/C), drafting of assessment criteria and items, expert review, and final tool development. Example assessment items were designed to measure students’ actual performance for each achievement standard—for instance, “Understanding computer commands and writing programs” and “Comparing data characteristics and exploring data using AI.” The developed assessment tool employs performance-based tasks such as practice activities and written reports, accompanied by a rubric that specifies grading criteria and feedback for each achievement level. Expert reviews confirmed the appropriateness of the achievement criteria, the clarity of the items, and the tool’s applicability to classroom settings. Moreover, the tool enables comprehensive evaluation of students’ core competencies, including problem-solving, computational thinking, and information ethics, throughout the learning process. This study provides a concrete implementation model for process-centered assessment in elementary practical arts information education and supports teachers in integrating instruction and assessment effectively.
