Abstract
Purpose: This study applied qualitative content analysis to investigate communication and relationship building between nurses, nursing assistants, and carers providing integrated nursing and care services. Methods: Twelve participants were recruited, including three managers from each department, nurses, nursing assistants, and carers from general nursing wards at a university hospital in Seoul. Data were collected from May 19, 2023 to May 31, 2023, and analyzed using the directive content analysis method. Results: The analysis yielded five themes, nine categories, and thirteen subcategories. The five themes were passive conversation, one-way communication, team spirit, lack of an information-sharing environment, and mutual respect. Conclusions: Communication and relationship building are critical for information sharing and teamwork. Therefore, a system for sharing patient information needs to be developed. Ultimately, this could improve the quality of interprofessional, team-based care.
