Abstract
Purpose: This study aimed to identify factors affecting depression in unemployed youth. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional design was used. Participants consisted of 176 unemployed youth registered in the three youth support centers located in a province. Data were collected using self-administered questionnaires from february 11 to 21, 2025. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent t-tests, one-way ANOVA, Pearson’s correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis using IBM SPSS 27.0. Results: The results showed that social isolation and grit were significantly correlated with the depression of unemployed youth. Finally, the significant factor affecting depression was social isolation. The regression model accounted for 58% of the variance in depression. Conclusion: The findings of this study suggest that social isolation plays a significant role in depression in unemployed youth. Therefore, interventions are needed to manage social isolation in unemployed youth. These intervention programs should be provided continuously and policies targeting this group are also needed.
