본고는 제주도 심방에 대한 연구로 입무(入巫)와 종무(終巫)에 관하여 본풀이와 의례를 통해 고찰하고자 한다. <초공본풀이>에서 제주의 무조신 삼멩두는 굿을 행하는 기본 법도인 연물과 무구인 삼멩두, 이를 모시는 제단으로서의 당주 설연에 대하여 차례로 보여주고 있다. 이러한 본풀이 내용은 현재 전승하는 의례에 그대로 이어져 오고 있다. 신굿 중 입무 의례의 성격을 갖는 ‘초신질굿-초역례’에서 당주를 무은다. 초신굿의 핵심은 <삼시왕맞이>와 <고분질침>에 있다. <삼시왕맞이>의 ‘약밥약술’, ‘어인타인’, ‘에게마을굿’은 ‘허가 의례’로, <고분질침> 혹은 <고분연질>은 ‘시험 의례’로 이해할 수 있다. <고분질침>은 ‘심방으로서 그릇된 일을 바로 잡는 의례’로 해석할 수 있다. 또한 <삼시왕맞이>에 이어 독립적인 대제차로서 <고분질침>을 벌이는 것은 <삼시왕맞이>의 질침에 대응하는 의미를 갖는 동시에 <초감제>-<추물공연>에 이어 벌어지는 <보세감상>의 구성 양상과 대응하여 이해할 수 있다. 종무 의례의 핵심은 ‘멩두 물림’에 있으며, ‘하직굿’과 ‘당주지움’이 행해진다.
Abstract
This paper aims to examine the Jeju Island shaman rituals of entering and ending shamanism through the bonpuri and rituals. In <Chogongbonpuri>, Jeju’s shaman god Sammengdu shows the basic laws of performing gut, including Yeonmul, a shaman, Sammengdu, and Dangju as an altar to worship them. This bonpuri content has been passed down as it is in the rituals that are handed down today. In ‘Choshinjilgut-Choyeokrye’, which has the nature of an entrance ritual among shingut, the dangju is worshipped. The core of Choshingut is <Samsiwangmaji> and <Gobunjilchim>. ‘Yakbap Yaksul’, ‘Eointain’, and ‘Egemaeulgut’ of <Samsiwangmaji> can be understood as ‘permission rituals’, and <Gobunjilchim> or <Gobunyeonjil> can be understood as ‘examination rituals’. <Gobunjilchim> can be interpreted as a ‘rite to correct wrongdoings as a simbang.’ Also, the fact that <Gobunjilchim> is performed as an independent grand rite following <Samsiwangmaji> has the meaning of corresponding to the jilchim of <Samsiwangmaji>, and can be understood in relation to the compositional aspect of <Bosegamsang> that follows <Chogamje>-<Chumulgongyeon>. The core of the ritual of ending is ‘Mengdu Mullim,’ and ‘Hajikgut’ and ‘Dangju Jieum’ are performed.
