『작별하지 않는다』에 나타난 상징은 두 부류로 나눌 수 있다. 나무, 바다, 새는신화적 상상력의 보편성에 근거하고 있는바, 꼭대기가 잘린 나무⋅하강 이미지와결합한 새는 승천하지 못하는 원혼을 상징하며, 바다는 죽음(=망각)을 나타낸다. 반면 눈보라와 아미⋅아마는 제주 역사와 관련된 토착적인 상상력의 산물이다. 눈雪은 4⋅3의 진상을 은폐하는 상징이며, 제주 무가에 등장하는 아미는 어머니의고어古語이고, 아마는 부사로 쓰일 경우 일말의 가능성을 담지한 용어가 되는 한편명사로서는 잠녀潛女, 즉 해녀의 일본어 あま에 해당한다. 한강은 은폐되고 망각되는 4⋅3의 진상을 바다에 잠기는 상황으로 제시하면서작가에게 잠녀あま로서의 역할을 부여하였다. 앵무새 아마를 구하기 위해 눈더미를 헤치고 나아가는 경하의 여정은 작가되기의 어려움을 나타내며, 아마에 깃든가능성을 현실로 제시하기 위하여 차용한 논리가 평행우주 이론이다. 양립할 수없는 1부와 2부의 내용을 나란히 제시하는 근거로 평행우주 이론을 활용한 것이다. 진실을 꿰뚫어보는 눈目과 손가락 끝의 신경 감각은 작가의 요건으로 제시되었다. 눈目은 민간인 학살의 피해자들에게 공통되는 면모이고, 신경 감각은 인선의 어머니, 인선, 경하가 공유하는 자질이다. 등장인물이 공유하는 자질은 서사의축이 아니라 이미지의 흐름에 따라 부여되었다. 이는 들뢰즈⋅가타리가 제안하는‘리좀적 글쓰기’의 특징으로 확인되는바, 그 바탕에는 ‘사이존재론’ 이 작동하는것으로 파악할 수 있다.
Abstract
The symbols that appear in “Don’t Say Goodbye” can be divided into two categories. Trees, sea, birds are based on the universality of mythical imagination. The tree with the top cut off, the bird combined with the image of the descent, symbolizes the grudgeful soul that cannot ascend to heaven, and the sea represents death. On the other hand, snowstorms and Ami and Ama are the products of indigenous imaginations related to the history of Jeju Island. The pile of snow is a symbol that hides the truth of April 3, and the Ami that appears in Jeju's shamanic songs is the mother's old saying. Ama, when used as an adverb, becomes a term that contains the possibility of a word, while as a noun, it corresponds to the Japanese pronunciation あま of a haenyeo. The Han Kang presents the hidden and forgotten truth of April 3 as a situation of being submerged in the sea, giving the artist the role of Ama. Kyeongha's journey through the snow to save Ama represents the difficulty of becoming a writer, and the logic borrowed to present the possibilities of Ama as a reality is the parallel universe theory. The symbol presented as a requirement for the writer in “Don’t Say Goodbye” is the eyes to see through the truth and a nervous sensation at the fingertip. The eyes are a common aspect for victims of civilian massacre, and the nervous sensation is a quality shared by Inseon, Kyeongha, and the mother of Inseon. The common aspect of such characters is given according to the flow of images, not the conflict of narratives. This is confirmed as a characteristic of ‘Rhizome Writing’ proposed by Deleuze and Gatari, and it can be understood that ‘Inter−être théorie’ works on the basis of it.
