국내 IB(International Baccalaureate) 교육 도입에 관한 언론 담론 분석: 토픽 모델링과 시계열 분석을 중심으로

본 연구는 국내 공교육에 국제 바칼로레아(International Baccalaureate, 이하 IB) 프로그램이 도입되는 과정을 둘러싼 언론 담론을 분석함으로써, IB 관련 사회적 인식과 정책 담론의 흐름을 조망하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 2015년부터 2024년까지 보도된 총 2,376건의 언론 기사를 한국언론진흥재단의 빅카인즈(BIGKinds)에서 수집한 후, 잠재 디리클레 할당(LDA) 기반 토픽 모델링과 시계열 분석을 실시하였다. 분석 결과, 국내 언론 담론은 ▲학력 재정의와 정책 기반 구축, ▲지역 수용 역량과 실행 기반의 형평성, ▲평가 및 입시 제도와의 구조적 연계성, ▲IB 국제 인증과 교육과정 실행의 제도화, ▲IB 도입과 교육정책 체계의 재편이라는 다섯 가지 주요 토픽으로 도출되었다. 또한 시계열 분석을 통해 최근 들어 실행 기반 및 교사 전문성 관련 담론이 증가한 반면, 입시 연계성에 대한 논의는 감소하는 추세를 보였다. 본 연구는 언론 담론의 분석을 통해 IB 도입을 둘러싼 정책 환경의 다층적 양상을 드러내고, 향후 IB 교육의 안정적 정착을 위한 실천적 시사점을 제공한다는 점에서 의의가 있다.
Abstract
This study analyzes public discourse surrounding the introduction of the International Baccalaureate (IB) program into South Korea’s public education system by examining media coverage over the past decade. A total of 2,376 news articles published between 2015 and 2024 were collected from the BIGKinds platform operated by the Korea Press Foundation. Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA)-based topic modeling and time-series analysis were employed to identify the structure and evolution of IB-related media discourse. The results revealed five major topics: (1) redefining academic achievement and establishing a policy foundation, (2) regional capacity and equity in implementation, (3) structural alignment with university entrance examination systems, (4) institutionalization of IB certification and curriculum execution, and (5) restructuring of the national education policy system. The time-series analysis indicated an increase in discourse related to implementation readiness and teacher professionalism, while media attention to university entrance exam alignment showed a declining trend. This study contributes to the understanding of the multifaceted policy environment surrounding IB in Korea and offers practical insights for the stable and sustainable implementation of IB in public education.
