Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze research trends in science and ecological transition education in Korea using keyword network analysis. To this end, 116 domestic academic papers published between 2001 and June 2025 were selected for analysis. The papers were categorized into elementary and secondary education levels, and the frequency, co-occurrence, centrality, and sub-cluster structures of major keywords were examined. First, research in science and ecological transition education has been conducted under various terms, including environmental education, education for sustainable development (ESD), and climate change education. The term “ecological transition education” first emerged in policy discourse in 2020 and began to appear in science education research from 2024. Second, studies at the elementary level primarily focused on affective and cognitive changes in students—such as attitudes, environmental literacy, and awareness—while secondary-level research emphasized curriculum and textbook analysis, as well as pre-service teachers’ perceptions. Third, keywords such as “curriculum,” “science textbook,” “education for sustainable development,” and “analysis” demonstrated high degree and betweenness centrality, functioning as core concepts that connect diverse research topics. Fourth, sub-cluster analysis revealed three distinct thematic groups: curriculum and textbook content analysis, program development and effectiveness, and learner perception and attitude change. These findings indicate that research in science and ecological transition education is becoming increasingly structured. Future studies should aim to integrate fragmented themes and expand toward transformative educational practices that promote holistic changes in learners’ thinking and behavior.
