Abstract

Ganggyeong port, which was once grown into the one of the 3major markets during the period of the Josen Dynasty, lost its identity as a harbor city because the ship's course was blocked off. Afterwards, such a change had a tremendous impact on the whole city of Ganggyeong and affected the cityscape of Ganggyeong in various ways as well. Ganggyeong, which is seeking for a new urban identity,turns their eyes on the most eye-catching salted fish, but did start belatedly their awareness of modern cultural heritage which has been well preserved because the modern cultural structures were built when the functions as a city were active and prosperous. In the meantime,the public concern for the modern cultural heritage also had an influence on the modern cultural heritage at Ganggyeong, producing a diversity of research results and excavating a variety of data showing the appearance of Ganggyeong in the modern period. However,actually, the modern structures at Ganggyeong are simply keeping their original position without going beyond the limit of the planning of their preservation and use. This study proposed a variety of the plans for revitalization of 'the former herbal medicine shop-Namildang'among the modern structures running idle at Ganggyeong while maximizing and preserving its value as the registered culture property.
