본 논문은 본질적 측면의 ‘분위기(Atmosphere)’1)1) 일반적으로 분위기를 뜻하는 단어는 Ambiance, Atmosphere, Mood, Vibe 등이 있고 그 쓰임새와 의미는 사용되는 맥락에 따라 차이가 있다. 분위기는 구어체 용어로써 주관적이고 내적인 의미와 관련이 있다. 이 논문에서는 주로 미적 개념으로서 환경적 상태와 대기로 해석되는 분위기에 초점을 맞추었기에 외적, 물리적, 객관적인 의미로 많이 사용되는 Atmosphere를 채택하였다. 를 하나의 독자적인 미적 요소로 정립하는 데 기여하고 그 인식의 범위를 넓히는 데 있다. 독일 철학자 게르노트 뵈메(Gernot Böhme)는 분위기가 전형적인 ‘사이(Between)의 현상’으로 어디에도 속하지 않는 것이라 이른다. 이는 실존적 대응과 정서적 인식으로 일종의 공통된 상태의 활성화이다. 그리고 그 특성은 준 객관적(Quasi-Objective)으로 ‘정동(Affect)’ 개념을 수용한다. 한편, 예술은 고유한 실재성을 지니고 잠재적인 분위기로 파악된다. 이는 예술의 생산과 그것을 감지하는 관람자에게는 강력한 영향력이다. 본고에서는 분위기의 이론적 정초를 위해 개념과 특성을 논하고 정동적 해석을 적용하여 오늘날 전개되는 예술의 양상을 대입하였다. 과거 신비론에 그쳤던 분위기는 이제 새로운 패러다임으로 미학적 관점의 변화를 시사한다. 미묘한 강도적 에너지이자 그것이 발생하는 장소로서 분위기론을 뵈메의 새로운 분위기 미학을 기반으로 고찰하였으며 그 합성적 기능은 정동성으로 드러나는 예술의 실천을 통해 예증한다.
Abstract
This thesis contributes to establishing the 'atmosphere' of the essential aspect as an independent aesthetic element and broadens the scope of its perception. Böhme says that the atmosphere is a typical 'between phenomenon' and does not belong anywhere. This is a kind of activation of a common state as a sense and emotion to an existential response. And its characteristic is continuous and accepts the concept of affection, which is always in progress with quasi-objectivity. And an important area in atmospheric aesthetics is the art field. The art that creates the atmosphere is understood as a potential atmosphere with its own reality. This is an important influence on art production and the viewers who sense it. In this thesis, concepts and characteristics were discussed as the theoretical basis of the atmosphere, and the aspect of art unfolding today was substituted by applying the affective interpretation that appears in art. The atmosphere, which was only a mystery in the past, now suggests the evolution of an aesthetic perspective as a new paradigm. The atmosphere with subtle intensity energy and uncertainty as the place where it occurs was examined based on the new atmosphere theory of German philosopher Gerot Böhme, and its synthetic function was exemplified through the practice of art revealed as affect.
