Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the concept and existential method changes of ‘poetry' that in principle appeared in the course of forming modern poetry. With this purpose, this paper focused on the concept formation of ‘poetry' that appear in the course of Korean mo- dern free-verse type, and the confusion of their patterns and general patterns. First of all, at the early stage of modern times, free-verse com- posers understood and learned the basic elements of modern poetry and applied them practically. In doing this, various explorations were con- ducted on free-verse by basically understanding lyricism. In general, they have settled down between ‘pure lyricism' and isolated space of the heart, as they could not last the tensed strength of lyric experiences towards the creative movement of poetic self. On the other hand, Kim So-Wol created poems as part of the existential movement of the self. He faced the division of the modern poetic self and its crisis, and embraced the confusion of patterns with the movement of poetic creation. However, he could not persist the ‘division' and ‘crisis' constantly under the historical and sensitive times. The aspect of ‘integration' implied in his poems has played a certain role for the main discourse formation of Korean current affairs and cultures such as ‘tradition', ‘resentment' and ‘sentimentalism'.
