이 글은 한국 근대시의 형성 과정을 ‘세속화’(secularization)라는 관점으로 고찰할 필요성을 제기하는 데 그 목적이 있다. 여기서 세속화는 시에서 근대적 내면이 발생하는 기제를 규명하기 위한 분석 논리이자 그것들의 역사적 변천의 메커니즘을 아우르는 확장적 개념으로 채택된 것이다. 이를 통해 한국 근대시사에서 내면과 초월성에 대한 상상력이 동시적으로 구축되는 과정을 분석하고, 한국 근대시 형성 과정에서 기독교적 세계관이 담당한 역할을 밝히는 데 세속화라는 개념이 유효함을 논증하고자 한다. 요컨대 한국 근대시 형성기에 나타난 기독교적 세계관의 패러디적 차용과 전유가 초월성에 대한 근대적 감각을 주조하고, 나아가 근대시에 대한 한국적 이념형을 수립하는 데 결정적인 동력으로 작용했다고 할 수 있는 것이다. 이 글은 이러한 문제의식을 바탕으로 세속화의 문학사적 적용 가능성을 타진하기 위한 이론적 지반을 탐색하는 일종의 시론적(試論的) 텍스트이다. 2장에서는 세속화 테제의 계보를 이론적으로 추적하였으며, 3장에서는 이러한 세속화 테제가 근대문학의 진화와 어떤 관계를 맺고 있는지를 살펴본다. 요컨대 이 글은 향후 진행될 연구의 선행 작업의 일환으로, 최근의 세속화 이론을 재조명하고 세속화라는 접근법을 한국 근대시의 형성 연구에 적용시킬 수 있는 이론적 토대를 마련하고자 한다.
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to emphasize the neccesity of analyzing the history of Korean modern poetry in the perspective of secularization. Secularization is selected as an analytical concept which is appropriate to explore the origin of modern interiority and as an extensive methodology for encompassing the historical change of Korean modern poetry. From this point of view, this paper investigates the simultaneity of the construction procedure of the modern interiority and the idea of transcendence. Furthermore this paper aims to prove that the concept of secularization is valid and useful for illuminating the role of Christianity on forming the history of Korean modern poetry. In Chapter 2 I trace the pedigree of secular thesis as a theory, in Chapter 3 I examine the intimacy of the relationship between the evolutional history of modern literature and the secular thesis. In short, as a preceding research, this paper rexamines the recent theory of secularization in order to lay the theoratical foundation for applying the secularism to the domain of Korean modern literature.
