문화접촉에 따른 한·일 역사인식의 전환가능성

본고는 실제 한·일 양국 시민들의 문화접촉 및 교류의 증대가 한·일관계와 역사인식 문제에 어떤 영향을 미치는지를 2013년도 서베이 자료를 통해 개인수준에서 실증적으로 검토하는 것을 목표로 한다. 분석결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 상대국을 방문한 경험이 있는 사람은 상대국에 대한 인상이나 상대국민에 대한 신뢰, 한·일관계의 중요성 인식 등에서 방문경험이 없는 사람과 유의미한 차이를보였다. 그러나 역사인식에 문제에는 차이를 나타내지 않았는데, 이는 대다수의방문이 단기간의 여행이기 때문인 것으로 보인다. 둘째, 지인이나 친구의 유무및 친밀감의 정도는 상대국에 대한 태도 및 역사인식과 매우 유의미한 관계를 갖는 것으로 확인되었다. 한국과 일본 모두 상대국에 대한 인상과 상대국민에 대한신뢰에서 통계적으로 매우 유의미한 차이를 보였다. 특히 야스쿠니신사 참배와일본군위안부 문제에서 주목할 만한 차이를 만들어냈다. 셋째, 정보 취득의 정도에 따라 상대국에 대한 인상이나 한·일관계 전망, 야스쿠니 신사 참배에 대한 태도가 다르게 나타났다.
Abstract
This study aims to empirically examine the relation of the growingcultural contact to the historical awareness in the individual level of Koreanpeople and Japanese people, respectively. Recent controversies between Koreaand Japan have aggravated the bilateral relation, which does not look like gettingbetter for a while. This article suggests an increase in cultural contact andexchange as an alternative to improving relations. The empirical results are asbelow. First, the respondents who have ever visited the other country showedmore positive attitudes in mutual impression, mutual trust and awareness of theimportance of bilateral relation than those who have never visited. Second, therespondents who have foreign friends and acquaintances were more friendly inthe attitudes toward the other country and in historical awareness than thosewho do not have. Third, the mutual impression and the prospect of bilateralrelation varied depending on the degree of information-acquisition of the othercountry. These results tell the cultural contacts and exchanges such as visiting,acquaintances and the degree of information-acquisition are closely connectedwith the mutual attitudes and history awareness between the Korean and theJapanese. Therefore para-public programs such as a students exchange and a citypartnership need to be increased qualitatively as well as quantitatively.
