Abstract
Recently, the importance of spreading and accepting eco-friendly products to reduce the negative impact on the environment and reduce the rate of environmental pollution is gaining more sympathy than ever. However, despite this change in perception, it still seems that more time is needed before the acceptance of eco-friendly products appears as an active action. This study demonstrated that consumers' innovation and social connection can affect the acceptance of eco-friendly products. By dividing consumer innovativeness into hedonic innovativeness and social innovativeness, this study tried to examine which innovativeness propensity affects the acceptance of eco-friendly products, and in this process, this study tried to prove that social connectedness has a mediating effect on the acceptance of eco-friendly products. To this end, 200 respondents participated in the online survey, and their ages and incomes were evenly distributed. As a result of the study, it was found that hedonic innovativeness and social innovativeness had a positive effect on eco-friendly purchase intention and word of mouth intention. Social connectedness was also found to have a significant positive effect on eco-friendly purchase intention and word of mouth intention. Also, as expected from the hypothesis, hedonic innovativeness was confirmed to have a positive effect on social connectedness, but it was confirmed that social innovativeness did not have a significant effect on social connectedness. Finally, the mediating effect of social connectedness was shown in the relationship between hedonic innovativeness and eco-friendly purchase intention. Based on previous studies on market acceptance of eco-friendly products as a single concept of consumer innovation, this study is meaningful in that it divided consumer innovativeness into hedonic innovativeness and social innovativeness to examine the effect on acceptance of eco-friendly products. In addition, it was explored and confirmed that the aspect of social connectedness can have meaning in more active acceptance of eco-friendly products, and it is thought that the role of social connectedness in the process of hedonic innovativeness positively affecting the acceptance of eco-friendly products is meaningful in terms of marketing strategy. This study is expected to provide some strategic insights to practitioners seeking more active market expansion of eco-friendly products.
