이 글은 전문용어의 개념에 대해 정의하고 그 범위와 범주에 대해 논의한다. 그리고 전문용어의 체계와 관계를 어휘론적 관점에서 살펴보고 그 공통점과 차이점을 탐색하는 것이 목적이다. 이전 연구들에서는 전문용어를 어휘의 범주에 포함하여 어휘의 팽창 혹은 어휘의 변이로 다루었다. 그러나 이 글에서는 전문용어가 어휘에 포함된다기보다 서로 구분되지만 교집합적 부분이 있는 것으로 파악한다. 2장에서 어휘와 전문용어는 일반 언어와 전문 언어의 구성 요소이며, 개별 단어와 개별 용어들의 집합으로 정의했다. 그리고 전문용어는 연구자들이 어느 부분에 중점을 두고 정의하느냐에 따라 유연하게 바뀔 수 있음을 확인하였다. 3장에서는 어휘론의 연구 방법에 따라 전문용어를 분석하였다. 일반 어휘와 전문용어는 형태·통사적 결합 관계 중, 합성, 파생, 혼성에서 큰 차이점을 보이지 않았다. 그러나 통사 구성 관계에서 전문용어는 일반 어휘의 관용구에 비해 의미적으로 투명한 차이점이 있다. 다음으로 어휘론의 의미적 계열 관계는 동의, 반의, 상하, 부분 관계로 나눌 수 있다. 전문용어 역시 이와 같은 관계로 나눌 수 있지만, 총칭 관계와 포함 관계로 나누어 살피는 것이 전문용어론의 방식이라는 것을 설명하였다.
Abstract
This study was conducted to define the concept of terminology and discuss its boundaries and categories. An examination is provided of the system and relationship of terminology from a lexicological point of view, and commonalities and differences are explored. Previous studies considered terminology within the boundaries of lexicon and discussed lexicon expansion and lexicon variation. However, this study is based on the understanding that the meanings of the two different words terminology and vocabulary have intersection of sets, rather than on simply considering terminology from within the boundaries of lexicon. Chapter 2 defines terminology and lexicon as components of both general language and special language, and sees them as a pair of individual words and individual terms. It has been found that terminology can be flexibly used depending on a researcher’s own definition and focus. Chapter 3 analyzes terminology according to the research methods of lexicology. Among the syntagmatic relations of lexicon and terminology, compounding, derivation, and blending do not show significant differences. However, from a syntagmatic perspective, terminology has a semantically significant difference compared to idioms in general lexicon. Next, the semantic paradigmatic relations of lexicology can be divided into synonymous, antonymous, hypernymous/hyponymous, and meronymous relations. Terminology can be divided into the same categories, but this shows that the methodology of terminology is based on dividing into generic and partitive relations.
