주체시대의 북한은, 당면한 생산력의 침체를 또다시 주의주의적 동원을 통해 극복하려 했다고 할 수 있다. 주체사상이 강조한 인간의 의식성, 창조성, 자주성이란 이런 주의주의적 동원을 위한 새로운 노동윤리, 어떤 보상도 명예도 바라지 않는 무한한 희생과 헌신의 노동윤리에 지나지 않는다. 그러나 체제 자체의 비효율성, 그리고 해방 이후 줄곧 유지되었던 동원체제가 초래한 인민들의 누적된 피로는 이런 주의주의적 동원을 통해 극복될 수 있는 것이 아니었다. 따라서 주체시대의 북한시는 인민들이 본받고 뒤따라야 할 다양한 전형들을 제시함으로써 인민들주의 생산의욕을 고취시키는 역할을 수행해야 했다. 북한시가 그려야 할 대상으로 지목한 주체형 공산주의자가 바로 그런 전형이다. 그것은 수령의 교시를 절대적으로 이행하는 맑은 양심과 충성심을 지닌 주체형 공산주의자의 형상을 그리는 것을 의미했다. 이 글에서는 이 주체형 공산주의자의 형상이 어떤 식으로 변모되었는가, 그리고 그 형상이 지닌 의미는 무엇인가를 주로 살펴보았다. 주체형 공산주의자의 원형은 항일혁명가에게서 찾아졌다. 하지만 이 주체형 공산주의자의 모습이 하나로 고정된 것은 아니었다. 주체형 공산주의자의 전형은, 천리마 기수, 3대 혁명 소조원, 당 일군, 5,60대의 농민, 숨은 영웅 등 다양한 형태로 제시된다. 이런 전형의 다양화는 동원 전략의 정교화로 이해할 수도 있지만, 다른 한편으로는 전형적 형상의 감화력을 통한 동원이 그리 수월치 않았음을 시시해 주기도 한다. 최종적으로 제시된 전형은 평범한 일상 속에서 묵묵히 희생하고 헌신하는 ‘숨은 영웅’의 형상으로, 이는 전 인민에게 무한한 희생과 헌신을 요구하기 위한 것이었다. 결국 북한 시는 당면한 현실을 올바르게 그리는 대신 당과 수령의 요구에 따라 생산현장의 ‘기적’과 노동자, 농민의 ‘위훈’을 노래함으로써 애초에 표방했던 사실주의의 기율에서 벗어났다고 할 수 있다. 북한 시인들이 수령이 작가, 시인들에게 보낸 ‘정치적 신임’에 보답하기 위해 애쓰는 동안, 북한은 점차 파국적인 ‘고난의 행군’을 향해 한걸음한 걸음 가까이가고 있었던 것이다.
Abstract
North Korea had tried to overcome their inactivity of production through voluntaristic mobilization strategy in Juche-era. Creativity, independency, consciousness of man means new labor ethic. Labor and peasant should not expect any compensation and reward to their devotion. They should work silently according to the order of boss and party. But ineffectiveness of their political system and peopl’s accumulated fatigue which was the result of continual mobilization could not cured by such voluntaristic mobilization. So North Korean poems tried to present various types and ideal models which people must take after, and to inculcate people’s motivation of production. They are so-called Juche type communists who have clear conscience and loyalty. North Korean poems were asked to create such figures. I tried to the analysis such Juche type communists and what is their meaning. The archetype of such communists is partisan against Japanese Imperialism. But their figures are not restricted within one type. Their figures are presented various types; rider of Chollima, member of company of triad revolution, member of communist party, old generation of peasant, hidden heros. These various types may be the result of elaborate mobilization strategy. And the other hand it means that power to influence of such figures was not effective. ‘Hidden heroes’ are types which were selected lastly. It was selected to ask people to endless sacrifice and devotion. Eventually North Korean poems deviated from realism which they professed by depicting the amazing miracles and exploits in factory and farm according to the order of boss and party. While North Korean poets try to recompense to political credence of their boss, North Korea approaches to the fate of ‘march of torture’ step by step.
