Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to show that the meaning of collecting classical works and Cino-Korean poetry of Nam Gongcheol(1760-1840), the representative literary official of the time of the Joseon kings Jeongjo and Soonjo, while being based on the orthodox classics of the past, also reflects a new understanding of the world in accordance with the changing times. The collecting classical works taste has two faces. One is a unreal face that has a long distance from real world. The other is a real face that meaning cultural authority. Meanwhile, the inquire into retiring from the world and managing indivisual land have same both meaning. The former poets of Nam Gongcheol are about taste of collection classical works and social intercourses. And the latter poets of him are about the inpuiring into retiring from the real world. Most scholars till now have asserted that the taste of collecting classical works and inquiring into retiring from real world are both a unreal one. But the taste and inquiring have both side, the realistic face with a unrealistic face. The minority literary men in latter Joseon needed a socioeconomic and sociopolitic status. So the taste of collecting classical works and inquiring into retiring from real world mean that not only have unrealistic face but also have realistic face.
