평화교육은 학생들에게 갈등을 평화적으로 해결하고자 하는 의지와 평화를 사랑하는 마음을 길러주는 교육이다. 교사는 갈등의 문제를 비폭력적으로 해결하는 데 적합한 다양한 평화 전략을 가르치고 학생은 평화의 가치를 인정하며 대화와 토론을 통해 합리적으로 그 갈등을 해결할 수 있는 평화 능력을 기를 필요가 있다. 평화교육은 평화에 관한 다양한 접근 방식을 통해 타인과 평화롭게 살아갈 수 있는 평화 능력을 신장하는 교육이라 할 수 있다. 따라서 교사는 학생들이 평화 능력을 신장할 수 있도록 개인적 차원에서 자신의 분노를 조절할 수 있는 능력과 자존감을 향상시키고, 대인 관계적 차원에서 의사소통 능력과 갈등 해결 기술의 함양을 통한 평화적 소통과 배려의 사고를 신장시키며, 국가․사회적 차원에서 관용과 정의의 덕을 신장시키고, 개인의 선과 공동의 선을 조화시키는 능력을 기르며, 자연․초월적 차원에서 생태학적 감수성과 생명 존중의 정신을 길러주어야 할 것이다.
Abstract
Peace education is for cultivating the will to resolve conflicts peacefully and the attitude to love peace itself. Teachers instruct various peace strategies suitable to settle the conflicts nonviolently, while students need to admit the values of peace and foster the peace capacity to do rationally through dialogue or discussion. In other words, it is the peace education to extend the peace capacity for life with others peacefully by different approaches about peace. Therefore, teachers have the duty for students to develop their anger management ability and self-esteem at the individual level, to expand the peaceful communication and caring thinking through communication skills and conflict resolution skills at the interpersonal relationship level, to build up the virtue of tolerance and justice at the national and social level, to raise the ability to balance between individual good and common good, and to cultivate the ecological sensitivity and the respect for lifes on a natural and transcendent scale. At the same time, all the above are all for students to extend the peace ability.
