도덕교육의 시사점, 습관화, 그리고 덕 윤리

도덕 교육의 시작점과 관련하여 두 가지 입장이 있 있다. 첫째는 도덕 발달이 도덕적 추론의 발달과 더불어 이루어지며, 추론 능력이 결여되면 도덕 교육도 불가능하다는 입장이다. 이러한 입장은 인지 발달에 근거한 도덕적 추론 능력이 도덕 발달에 토대가 된다는 입장으로 콜버그와 같은 학자에 의해 주장되어 왔으며, 최근까지 도덕 교육에 지배적인 이념을 형성해 왔다. 둘째 행위 분석 연구자들에 의해 주장되고 있는 입장이 있다. 어린 시절부터 친숙한 역할 모델의 영향과 지침을 통해 도덕적 행동을 간접적으로 습득한다는 것이다. 이러한 방식의 습득은 유아기 시절부터 가능하다. 여기서 친숙한 역할자로서 모범자는 대체로 부모이다. 콜버그의 입장을 비판하고 두 번째 입장을 옹호할 것이다. 그리고 두 번째 입장에서 제시되어 온 여러 도덕 심리학적 사실들, 즉 습관화에 관한 초기 학습에 관한 연구 내용들을 제시할 것이다. 이러한 과정은 콜버그가 자신의 입장을 소크라테스적 견해의 현대적 진술로 여기기 위하여 설정한 도덕 발달의 6단계를 비판하는 내용과 도덕적 습관을 함양하는 데에는 인지적 능력보다도 인지 외적인 정의적 요소가 더 핵심적 요소임이 함축적으로 드러내는 내용으로 이루어진다. 이 과정에서 도덕 교육의 시작점은 인지적 발달이 상당한 정도로 발전한 이후에 이루어지는 것이 아니라 그보다 훨씬 이전에 시작된다는 것을 밝혀 볼 것이다. 두 번째 입장에 따라 도덕 발달은 유아기부터의 습관화를 통하여 이루어진다는 많은 연구 결과들이 제시되어 있지만, 이러한 입장에 대한 이론적 정당화는 거의 이루어지지 않았다. 이 논문에서는 이러한 연구 결과들이 덕 윤리의 유덕한 사람에 관한 논의에 의해 지지될 수 있다고 주장할 것이다. 그리고 유덕한 사람에 대한 모델로 발전모델이 이러한 주장에 가장 잘 부합한다고 조심스럽게 제안할 것이다.
Abstract
When does moral education begin? We have two different answer to this question. First, only when a young child is capable of understanding moral reasons and justifications, moral education can begin. Kohlberg is a typical scholar in this approach. Second, behaviour-analytic researchers think that moral education stars somewhat earlier. they focus on habituation in early moral education. I will criticize Kohlberg's approach, first view. I will defense that a capacity of moral reasoning is not important in moral education and moral education is possible when cognitive development is low level. So I will argue that moral education stars earlier, from infant era. We have a lot of result of moral psychology experiments which show that infants get habits concerning moral activities. But this experiments is not yet justified in philosophical and ethical academy. I will try to justify these experiments through virtue ethics approach, a development model on virtuous agent and virtuous act.
