Abstract

Neuroscientific researches have confirmed that neurotransmitters, like oxytocin and serotonin, are able to influence pro-social behaviors encompassing trust, empathy, generosity, and reaction to fairness. On this ground, some scholars argue for the morality pills project in order to enhance our morality. They posit that our moral psychology is unfit for solving moral problems such as climate changes and mass destruction of terrorism. Thus, morality pills are considered as the most promising method of moral enhancement. I tried to show here that morality pills are not reliably safe to use and they are not reliably effective in making persons more moral. We as moral educators should bear in mind that moral education as traditional method of moral enhancement is the best idea for enhancing our morality. At the same time, we should recognize the possible dangers of the morality pills project.
