글로벌한 세계가 되면서 우리나라도 다문화사회가 되었다. 다문화사회에서는 문화가 지니는 보편성과 각각의 문화가 지니는 고유성이 동시에 고려되어야 한다. 그런데 유럽중심주의는 유럽의 기준을 보편적 기준으로 삼고 비유럽을 미개하거나 결핍된 존재로 여겨왔고, 문화상대주의는 한 문화가 어떠하든지 간에 타문화가 평가할 수 없는 고유성이 있으므로 ‘관용’해야 하다는 점만을 강조한다. 유럽중심주의적 관점이나 문화상대주의적 관점은 문화 간의 진정한 이해와 소통을 어렵게 한다. 본 논문은 이러한 문제 의식에서 출발하여 독일의 철학자 말(Mall)의 주장을 중심으로 문화 간의 이해와 소통을 시도하고자 하는 상호문화철학의 이념과 그 이상을 실현하기 위한 방편으로써의 도덕 교육 의의를 살펴보고자 한다.
Abstract
Becoming a global world, Korea has become a multicultural society. In a multicultural society, the universality and the individuality of culture must be considered together. Eurocentrism has regarded European standards as a universal standard and non-Europe as a barbaric or deficient one. Cultural relativism, on the other hand, emphasizes that whatever a culture is, it must be ‘tolerant’ because it has uniqueness that can not be assessed by other cultures. The Eurocentric perspective and the cultural relativistic view make it difficult to truly understand and communicate between cultures. Intercultural philosophy starts from this awareness. Intercultural philosophy seeks to understand and communicate between cultures through the universality and uniqueness of all cultures. And the moral education is the most important practical way to realize the ideals of intercultural philosophy.
