본 논문의 목적은 현 한국 다문화 상황의 한계와 다문화주의 문화철학의 문제를 극복하는 다문화주의 철학의 재 개념화를 통하여 한국 다문화교육의 철학과 방향을 모색하는데 있다. 한국 다문화 상황의 한계는 사회적 문화적 토대 조건이 미비한 구조적 한계 상황 속에서 다문화 담론화 과정을 국가가 주도함에 따라 주류 사회적 논의들과 단절되어 있고 다문화주의는 동화정책 중심으로 진행되고 있다는 것이다. 한국 다문화주의 철학의 핵심적 문제인 문화철학의 문제는 교육과의 관계에서 문화해석의 문제, 문화 상대주의와 가치상대주의의 연계 문제, 문화본질주의적 시각의 문제들로 요약 된다이상의 상황적 한계와 문화철학적 문제들을 극복함으로써 한국 사회 현실에 적합한 규범적 당위성과 구현 및 문제해결 가능성을 가진 한국의 다문화주의 성격을 모색하였다. 그리고 이같이 도출한 한국적 다문화주의 철학으로부터 교육의 논리로 번역한 한국 다문화교육의 철학과 방향을 결론적으로 제안하였다. 그것은 다문화 시민성 교육, 다층적 문화정체성의 육성, 다양한 문화에 대한 도덕교육적 측면의 강화, 문화를 넘어서는 실존적 문화인의 육성, 다문화적 문해 능력, 그리고 다문화교육의 평생 교육적 측면을 포함해야 하는 것으로 결론지었다.
Abstract
Faced with the multicultural challenge of the Korea and the world, this study explores the philosophy of multicultural education of Korea, based on the analysis of multicultural conditions of the society and underlying multiculturalism as cultural philosophy. As Korean society is not yet to be structurally prepared to meet the relevant multicultural conditions, multicultural policy, its social discourse and education have been limited to government policies, and one-directional assimilation of Korean culture. The critical problems of multiculturalism are in the interpretation of culture as determinism, the concept of culture as group identity and unchanging essence, and absolute cultural relativism. Therefore, the multicultural philosophy with contextural relevancy for current society need to meet the limitations of multicultural conditions and overcome the problems of cultural philosophy itself. Finally, the philosophy of multicultural education is translated from the multiculturalism reconceptualized. The directions of multicultural education derived are: multicultural citizenship, multidimensionality of cultural identity, respect for cultural differences and cultural criticism, respect for cultural transcendence of individual, multicultural literacy, and extending the multicultural education to social and life-long enterprise.
