Abstract
Self-compassion as a new psychological construct is composed of self-kindness, common humanity, and mindfulness. Self-compassion is an emotionally positive self-attitude that can protect against the negative consequences of self-criticism, isolation, and rumination. Self-compassion is very important in moral education because it helps to exert psychological resilience from stress and adversity. It is an important protective factor for well-being and mental health. It can be one of the important goals to be pursued in moral education. Therefore, this paper focuses on the meaning and significance of self-compassion in moral education. In this paper, I examined the definitions and components of self-compassion, analyzed the psychological functions and effects of self-compassion in terms of elementary moral education, and finally proposed effective teaching methods for cultivating self-compassion in moral education.
