Abstract

The Moral Education Curriculum stipulate that the goal of the moral education is to cultivate an autonomous and integrated character. The dictionary definition of autonomy does not really capture the meaning of autonomy. A sufficient explanation of the theoretical and historical background of autonomy can be used to achieve the goal of moral education. This paper examines Kant's Duty Ethics as a theoretical background on autonomy. Kant's Ethics is a landmark event in the history of philosophy and ethics, like the Copernicus. Human being and human reason stand at the center of the world. The main concepts of self-legal duty ethics include human reason, purpose, duty, good will, and Categorical Imperative. It is Autonomy based on these concepts. In addition, Autonomy is a central theme of liberal moral education theory. Piaget's and Kolberg's theory, which is based on the liberal moral education theory, is considered the main content of morality and education. In spite of criticism of liberal moral education theory, it examines the meaning of moral education in autonomy.
