이 글은 “알고 행하여야 도덕적”이라는 지행합일적 자율도덕의 문제를 비판적으로 검토한 것이다. 우리는 여기에서 도덕의 자율성과 타율성에 대한 형이상학적 논의가 공리공론에 불과하다는 점을 밝히고, 인간의 실천적 삶 가운데서 도덕과 규범이 작동하는 원리를 탐구함으로써 자율도덕의 해법을 찾고자 하였다. 전통철학이 가정했던 것과는 달리 일상적 삶을 영위할 때의 인간은 공적규범을 무의식적으로 혹은 의식내용 없이 관습적으로 습득하고 실천에 옮기는 것으로 드러났다. 일상적 삶이 도덕적 문제상황에 처하게 될 때 반성적 의식작용이 발동하면서 행위선택에 대한 성찰이 일어나게 되고, 관련 행위의 정당성과 도덕원리의 타당성이 논의대상이 된다. 이 때 비로소 “알고 행위함”의 의미가 적실성을 얻게 되는 것이다. 우리는 이 글에서 이러한 도덕적 삶에 대한 이해를 토대로 하여 작금의 도덕교육이 빚고 있는 오해와 왜곡을 지적하고, 개선의 필요성을 역설하였다. 무엇보다 지행합일적 덕목중심주의와 덕교육·인격교육 개념의 폐기 내지 개선의 필요성을 제기하였다.
Abstract
This paper critically examines the problematic issues of moral autonomy featuring prominently the unity of knowledge and action. The metaphysical discussion of moral autonomy and heteronomy is nothing but indulging in vain academic discussions. Accordingly, this paper tries to uncover the essence of moral autonomy by inquiring into the moral principles and norms in the middle of human practical life. Differing from the premises of traditional philosophy, it has been revealed that human beings, when living in an ordinary life, acquire public norms unconsciously and practice them conventionally. When people encounter any kind of moral problem-solving situation in one's everyday life, the operation of reflective consciousness is thereby invoked. At this stage, the assertion that 'knowledge must be united with action' gains suitability. This paper, based on the viewpoint of above-mentioned moral life, highlights the misunderstanding and distortion of the moral education and emphasizes the necessity of a significant improvement in the moral education.
