Abstract

Whole-being Education as a Unified Space of Life, Spiritual Cultivation and Education This paper is all about the introduction of whole-being education. Whole-being education holds the belief that human beings carry dignity and sacredness as their inborn nature. Thus, it assumes that a child is vulnerable to lose one's spirituality and one's fundamental self can be harmed due to undesirable nurturing and education. For example, a child who is competitively assessed is apt to lose one's inborn genuineness and dignity. Whole-being education is, thus, a process which can enable a child to uncover one's fundamental self and to manifest the fundamentals of the self in it, which ultimately lead to help one to realize human values. For this process to be fulfilled, an educator should put serious efforts in providing a child with a space of delving into one's fundamental self based on respect and dignity. Out of the efforts grows one's wholeness naturally. Whole-being education, thus, focuses on growing a child as whole-being. Children are educated to develop their spirituality, character, emotion, reason, and intelligence through lived experience, which help equipping them with the capacity to embody the 'whole-being society' in which a man can live harmoniously with others. Namely, the goal of whole-being education is to grow a child as a being who can fulfill, produce, and create shared life world with others. To fulfill this goal, the instruction accommodates subjects integration, project learning, grades integration etc. Besides, the academic year is run on a four term basis.
