홀리스틱 교육사상에 기반을 둔 인성교육

1990년대 중반이후, 우리나라에서 “도덕교육”이란 용 어 대신에 “인성교육”이란 용어가 널리 사용되면서부터 학교 현장에서 인성교육에 대한 관심과 실천이 계속 증가되어왔다. 하지만, 최근까지의 연구결과는 우리나라에서의 인성교육이 기대만큼 효과적이지 아니었음을 보여주고 있고, 또한 여러 가지 문제점도 갖고 있음을 알려주고 있다. 이런 현실 속에서, 본 논문에서는 우리나라의 인성교육이 지향해야 할 기본방향에 대해 이론적 시사점을 제공해 줄 홀리스틱 교육사상에 대해서, 특별히 그 철학적 기초와 교육적 특징, 그리고 그 비전과 핵심원리 등에 대해 상세히 조명하고자 한다. 그 이유는, 전인으로서의 인간, 영성의 강조, 또 관계성을 강조하는 홀리스틱의 교육사상을 우리들의 교육현장에 실제로 잘 실행한다면, 이론․체험․실천이 조화를 이룬 인성교육, 이른바 그저 앎(knowing)으로서 끝나는 것이 아닌 행함(doing)이 중심이 되는 인성교육이 실현되리라 기대되기 때문이다.
Abstract
Since Mid-1990’'s, the term “character education or humanity education”, instead of the term “moral education” in educational field in Korea, has been widely used, thus the attention and practice about “humanity education” has increased continuously so far. However, results of recent many studies indicated that the humanity education has not much achieved effectively. Moreover, it also still has many problematic factors. This article mainly illustrates the theory of holistic education, in particular, its philosophical foundations, its characteristics, and its core principles, because the theory of holistic education might give some insights for the direction of character education in Korean society. If we truly try to practice “in action” both the emphasis of spiritual education and the emphasis of connection in our human world in holistic education, the so-called whole-person education, which has the balance among theory․experience․practice, will come true in our educational field.
