오늘날 복합체계론은 체계이론에서 형성된 다양한 개념과 아이디어들을 창조적으로 적용함으로써 자연계는 물론 인간과 사회현상의 본질과 변화를 규명할 수 있는 매우 강력하고 유용한 방법론이 되고 있다. 이러한 맥락에서 본 논문은 21세기 과학의 핵심이라고 할 수 있는 복합체계론의 등장배경과 그 방법론적 특징을 살펴보고, 이를 남북한 관계의 분석에 적용해 봄으로써 복합체계론이 지닌 방법론적 적실성과 사회과학적 함의를 도출하는데 그 목적이 있다. 복합체계론은 인간과 정치·사회체계의 역동성을 포괄적으로 이해하고 나아가 현실적 차원에서 요구되는 다양한 정책적 대안들을 모색하는데 있어서 유용한 토대가 될 수 있다. 복합체계론에 따르면 남북한 관계의 역동적 변동 과정을 이해하기 위해서는 남북한 관계라는 하나의 체계를 구성하는 다양한 요소들 사이의 상호관련성을 고려한 총체적 접근이 필요하다. 또한 복합체계론은 비평형 상태 속에서 예측할 수 없는 질적 전환의 가능성을 지닌 남북한 관계의 결과를 의도하기 위한 노력보다는 전체 체계의 요동으로 인한 혼돈 상태 속에서 남한 체계의 체계가동력을 높일 수 있는 정책적 접근이 보다 실제적이고 중요할 수 있다는 점을 시사하고 있다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to explore some critical ideas and methodological characteristics of complex systems theory. The theoretical ground of complex systems theory was provided by general systems theory in biology, which had stressed not only the significance of holistic view but also complex relationship among system's components. Currently complex systems perspective is widely regarded as one of the most optimal tools to analyse complex socio-political phenomena beyond the realm of living systems. In terms of complex systems perspective, the Inter-Korean system could be regarded as an adaptive complex system, in which various components of the system are interacting and affecting each other. Thus in order to fully understand the dynamics of Inter-Korean system, it is necessary to see the system as a whole. Also we need to recognize the importance of acting as a kind of catalyst far from equilibrium state to proceed the evolutionary path toward Korean Unification.
