이 글은, 남북한 관계에 대한 이론들을 분류비판하고, 대안적 이론화를 위한 출발점을 제시하고자 한다. 남북한 관계의 이론들은 남북한 관계에 대한 존재론적 가정에 따라 남북한 관계를 국가 대 국가의 관계로 보는 입장과 남북한 관계를 특수관계로 보는 입장으로 나눌 수 있다. 전자가 사회과학의 이론화 경향이라면, 후자는 역사학의 이론화 경향이다. 이 글은, 이 두 범주의 이론이 가지는 한계를 지적하면서, “역사적 구조”의 개념을 도입하게 될 때, 보다 적실성을 가지는 분단국가의 성격과 형태에 기초한 남북한 관계의 이론화가 가능하다고 주장한다.
Abstract
This article critiques existing theories of inter-Korean relations, and proposes a starting point for an alternative theorization of them. The theories of inter-Korean relations can be divided into two categories according to different ontological assumptions. International relations perspectives regard inter-Korean relations as state-to-state ones, but national perspectives consider inter-Korean relations as temporary and special relations which means that division of Korean peninsula should be replace with a unified Korea. This article argues that we can have more appropriate theories through the introduction of the concept of historical structures in theorizing inter-Korean relations
