아동 발달 프로젝트는 교실과 학교 그리고 가정환경에서 체계적인 변화를 통해 아동의 도덕･사회 발달을 고양하려는 포괄적인 종단 연구 프로젝트였다. 아동 발달 프로젝트는 학급 경영의 주요 목표로 배려･정의･민주 공동체를 구축하는 데 초점을 맞추었으며, 그 구성 요소 중 일부로 발달 훈육이라는 대안적인 훈육 방법을 개발하여 적용하였다. 그럼에도 불구하고 발달 훈육에 관한 우리의 연구는 지금까지 매우 미진하였다. 이에 이 논문은 초등 교실에서 발달 훈육의 개요와 특징을 명료하게 규명하였다. 구체적으로, 이 논문은 훈육의 개념과 도덕교육적 함의를 분석하고, 아동 발달 프로젝트의 대안적인 훈육 방법으로서 발달 훈육의 특징과 구성 요소를 살펴보았다.
Abstract
The Child Development Project was a comprehensive longitudinal research project aimed at enhancing moral and social development of children through systematic changes in classrooms, schools, and home environments. The Child Development Project focused on establishing a caring, just, and democratic community as the main objective of classroom management, and as a part of its major components, it developed and executed an alternative method of discipline called developmental discipline. Nevertheless, our research on developmental discipline has so far been very poor. Thus, this paper clearly identified the outline and characteristics of developmental discipline in elementary classrooms. Specifically, this paper analyzed the concept of discipline and its implications to moral education, and looked at the components of developmental discipline as an alternative method of discipline in the Child Development Project.
