공적 이성(Public Reason)에 대한 고찰과 시사점: 존 롤스(J. Rawls)의 논의를 중심으로

본 연구의 목적은 롤스가 제시한 공적 이성의 의미와 역할을 고찰하고 시사점을 도출하여 초등 도덕과 수업에 적용해 보는 것이다. 민주주의 사회가 안정적으로 유지되고 발전하기 위해서는 시민들이 다양성을 인정하면서도 공동선을 추구할 수 있는 정의감이 있어야 한다. 공적 이성은 다원주의 사회에서 어떻게 공동선을 추구할 수 있는지 보여주는 개념이다. 먼저 공적 이성의 의미와 역할 및 그 한계점을 고찰한다. 다음으로 공적 이성의 계발과 시민들의 심의 능력 함양의 필요성을 주장하고, 이를 위해 도덕 교육에서 관심을 가져야 할 바를 제언한다. 끝으로 공적 이성을 계발하기 위한 도덕 수업 사례를 제시하고자 한다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the meaning and role of Public Reason as presented by Rawls, draw implications, and apply them to elementary moral education classes. For a democratic society to remain stable and develop, its citizens must have a sense of justice that enables them to pursue the common good while recognizing diversity. Public reason is a concept that illustrates how the common good can be pursued in a pluralistic society. This study will first explore the meaning and role of public reason as well as its limitations. Next, it will argue for the need to develop public reason and enhance citizens' deliberative abilities, and suggest the focus of moral education to achieve these goals. Finally, it will present examples of moral lessons designed to develop public reason.
