본 연구는 한국의 학교 도덕교육에서 합리성이 지니는 가치를 강조하기 위하여 수행되었다. 먼저 합리성의 특징을 중심으로 개념화를 시도하며, 합리성이 인지를 강조하는 도덕심리학 전통에서 유의미함을 언급하였다. 다음으로 합리성이 도덕심리학에서 가지는 가치를 구체화하기 위해, 합리성이 도덕성의 규범적 정의와 도덕 발달에 있어서 가지는 의미를 탐색하였다. 마지막으로는 합리성이 우리의 도덕교육에서 가지는 가치를 세 가지로 제시하였다. 첫째, 합리성은 자율성이라는 측면에서 도덕성과 선순환의 관계를 형성하여 도덕교육에 중요하다. 둘째, 합리성은 도덕교육이 역설하는 성찰과 조정 그리고 상호작용에 기여하고, 이에 따라 인성교육 및 시민교육 간 접점 형성에도 도움을 줄 수 있다. 셋째, 합리성은 인지적 측면의 발달과 관련이 깊으므로 교실 수업 상황에서의 도덕교육에 유의미하다.
Abstract
This study was conducted to emphasize the value of rationality in moral education in Korean schools. First, it attempts to conceptualize rationality by focusing on its characteristics and highlighting its significance within the moral psychology tradition, which emphasizes cognition. Next, to further clarify the value of rationality in moral psychology, the study explores its role in the normative definition of morality and moral development. Lastly, the study presents three key aspects of the value of rationality in moral education. First, rationality is crucial in moral education as it forms a virtuous cycle with morality in relation to autonomy. Second, rationality contributes to reflection, coordination, and peer interaction—elements emphasized in moral education—and, accordingly, helps bridge character education and civic education. Third, since rationality is closely related to cognitive development, it holds significant educational value in classroom-based moral education.
