본 연구는 베트남에 진출한 한국기업을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하여 투자업종이나 투자규모, 종업원 규모 및 진출시기에 따라 투자동기 및 경영애로에서 어떤 차이가 있는지를 살펴보았다. 아울러 이들 기업들의 경영성과와 현지화 노력도 살펴보았다. 본 연구에서 나타난 주요 결과는 아래와 같다. 베트남에 진출한 우리 기업들의 투자동기는 투자업종과 진출시기에 따라 통계적으로 유의미한 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 먼저, 생산효율지향 투자동기에서 제조업과 서비스업간 유의미한 차이가 있었다. 제조업은 경공업이나 중공업 구분없이 생산효율추구가 중요한 투자동기로 나타났으나 서비스업은 그렇지 않은 것으로 나타났다. 반면, 시장지향 투자동기에서는 섬유․신발 제조업과 기타 제조업 간에 유의미한 차이를 나타냈다. 즉, 섬유, 신발 등 노동집약적 제조업보다는 철강, 자동차제조 등의 기업들에서 현지판매를 위한 투자동기가 강하게 나타났다. 투자시기별로는 생산효율지향 투자동기와 글로벌 전략에 의한 투자동기에서 베트남과의 수교이전 진출 기업과 수교이후 진출 기업 간 통계적으로 유의미한 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 1992년말 이전에 베트남에 진출한 기업들은 글로벌 전략과 생산효율지향 투자동기를 높게 지적하였다. 반면, 1993년 이후에는 현지 시장을 확보하기 위해 기타 제조업이 중심이 되어 베트남에 진출한 것으로 나타났다. 이같은 결과는 한국기업의 대 동남아투자에서 통념적으로 인정되는 가설들과도 부합되는 내용으로, 이를 실증적으로 입증하였다는 데 의의가 있다 하겠다. 투자규모나 종업원 규모에 따라서는 진출동기에서 통계적으로 의미있는 차이를 보이지 않았다. 베트남 진출기업들이 겪는 경영상 애로사항은 업종이나 투자규모 등 기업특성에 따라 통계적으로 유의미한 차이가 없었다. 이는 대부분의 애로요인이 베트남에 진출한 기업들에게 공통적으로 적용되기 때문이라 할 수 있다. 진출기업들의 경영성과는 대체적으로 만족스런 수준이었으나, 진출기업들의 현지화 노력은 비교적 높지 않았다.
Abstract
The objective of this study is to investigate the motives and difficulties of Korean direct investment in Vietnam by using the factor analysis method. The results of this study are as follows. First, investment motives are different among industries according to their characteristics. The investment motives of manufacturing companies are to reduce manufacturing costs, as expected. Besides that, companies in a heavy industry are also interested in expanding their sales in the local market. But companies in a service sector are interested in the local market only and they are not concerned about the global market. Second, entering timing of Vietnamese market affacts to the investment motives significantly. Companies entered Vietnam’s market before the normalization of diplomatic relations in 1992 are mostly interested in reducing production costs. But companies entered Vietnam’s market after 1993 are interested in the local market for their products. Most of the Korean companies in Vietnam face with various kinds of difficulties at a similar level. However, they have satisfied their business performance in Vietnam.
