축소주의적 진리론에 관한 선언적 결론에 대하여

바-온, 호리스크, 그리고 라이칸은 의미는 최소한 부분적으로라도 진리 조건일 수밖에 없다는 이른바 ‘결정 논증’을 축소주의가 반박하지 못하므로, 축소주의는 거짓이거나 또는 축소주의는 진리 조건적 이론과 양립 가능하다는 선언적 결론을 제안한다. 본 논문은 축소주의가 결정 논증을 반박하지 못한다는 그들의 주장은 진리 조건의 개념을 과도하게 넓게 설정하고 그로부터 축소주의를 받아들일 수 없는 주장을 하는 이론으로 왜곡함에서 비롯되었다고 비판할 것이다. 더 나아가 본 논문은 그들의 선언적 결론 역시 진리 조건의 잘못된 개념 설정에 기초하고 있으며, 따라서 축소주의의 입장에서는 선결문제 요구의 오류에 지나지 않음을 논증할 것이다.
Abstract
Bar-On, Horisk, and Lycan argue that deflationists cannot defeat so-called 'Determination Argument(DA)' which concludes that meaning consists at least partially of truth condition, and on this ground they further suggest a disjunctive conclusion that either deflationism is false or deflationism is compatible with truth-conditional theory. In this paper, I will first criticize their argument presumes an extremely wide notion of truth condition and consequently distorts deflationism as an unacceptable thesis. Furthermore I will show that their disjunctive conclusion also stands on an incorrect notion of truth condition which brings about begging the question.
