상관적 사유의 비판적 고찰

본 논문의 일차적인 목적은 상관적 사유의 정확한 이해이고, 두 번째 목적은 상관적 사유의 비판적 극복이다. 첫 번째 목적을 위해 연구자는 상관적 사유를 크게 ‘구조주의 상관적 사유’와 ‘칼 융･니덤의 상관적 사유’의 둘로 보아야 한다고 주장한다. ‘구조주의 상관적 사유’는 데이비드 흄의 관념연합론에 기반한 프레이저의 주술관념의 분류를 모티프로 해서 야콥슨의 구조주의 언어학과 레비스트로스의 야생의 사고를 거치면서 성숙하였고 이후 그레이엄에 의해서 중국적 사고 특히 음양오행의 분석을 위해 사용된 구도를 말한다. 칼 융과 니덤을 하나로 묶는 것은 이상해 보일지 모르겠지만 연구자는 둘 사이에 답습의 흔적이 있다고 생각한다. 둘은 라이프니쯔를 각각 유기체 철학과 동시성관념의 중요한 인물로 파악하고 있으며 모두 패턴이라는 핵심어를 사용한다. 그런데 ‘구조주의 상관적 사유’와 ‘칼 융･니덤의 상관적 사유’는 모두 중국적 사유의 본질을 드러내는데 기여하기는 하지만 나름의 한계를 지니고 있다. 예를 들어, 구조주의적 방법론을 사용하는 그레이엄으로 이어지는 물줄기는 중국적 사유를 지나치게 합리화는데, 그런 합리성은 중국에는 존재하지 않았던 것이다. 니덤의 유기체론은 목적인이 있는 유기체론으로 중국적 사유를 해석하는 잘못을 보이고 있다. 칼 융은 감응에 지나치게 신비적인 색채를 입힌다. 그것은 사회의 구성원리로서의 감응의 역할을 지나치게 협소화시킬 우려가 있다. 이런 잘못은 모두 중국적 사유를 읽어내기 위해 외부의 구도를 사용한 때문에 발생한 것이다. 외부의 구도를 사용함으로써 발생하는 문제 중에는 왜곡 외에도 다른 것이 또 있다. 주지하듯이 중국의 사유는 類를 중심으로 전개되었다. 그러므로 상관적 사유가 중국의 사유를 대표한다면 최소한 그것과 유의 문제가 언급되어야 할 것이다. 그럼에도 불구하고 위의 누구도 이 문제를 다루지 않는다. 그러므로 이렇게 말할 수 있을 것으로 보인다. ‘상관적 사유의 건설적 극복은 먼저, 그 자체의 색깔을 지워내서 감응을 드러내는 것이어야 하고 다음으로, 감응과 類別의 관계, 그리고 감응과 유추 및 유간의 관계에 대한 문제를 다루는 것이어야 한다.’
Abstract
In this thesis, I tried to concretely investigate the formation process of correlative thinking. I proposed we can divide the people who participated in the discussion of correlative thinking two groups, ‘correlative thinking of structuralism' and ‘correlative thinking of needham･Carl G. Jung'. To support this proposal, especially the proposal that ‘correlative thinking of needham･Carl G. Jung' can be accepted as one, I proved there are significant similarities between needham's organicism and jung's simultaneity. But this investigation is not the final goal of this thesis. the final goal of this thesis is to overcome correlative thinking itself. for there are so big problems that can't be overlooked in correlative thinking, namely distortion of the original meaning of ‘chinese thought'. To get this goal, I showed every distortion of chinese thought made by A. C. Graham, Joseph Needham and Karl G. Jung. and criticized other problems which are in the ‘correlative thinking of structuralism' and ‘correlative thinking of needham･Carl G. Jung'. For example, There is the same problem in the Graham's ‘correlative thinking of structuralism' as the structuralism, That is to say determinism, reductionism and essentialism. And other correlative thoughts have problems too that can't be overlooked. By critically understanding what the correlative thought and how it is formed, We will be able to overcome the distortions mentioned above and reach more appropriate discourse that better explain the difference between the east and west.
