리쾨르의 악의 상징에 대한 체험주의적 해명

이 글의 주된 목적은 체험주의적 시각인 기본층위 범주－일차 은유에 의존하는－를 통해 폴 리쾨르가 『악의 상징』에서 주장하고 있는 악의 가능성과 현실성을 경험적으로 해명해 보려는 것이다. 일상에서 마주치는 도덕적 딜레마는 대체로 악과 관련된다. 따라서 악의 의미지반에 있어 그 폭을 규정하는 것은 악을 해명하는 논의의 출발점을 이루는 선결적 작업이다. 서구 지성사에서 악의 기원은 고대에서부터 시작된 정신사적 변증의 하나이지만 그 역사와 귀결은 간단하지 않다. 특별히 근세적 개념의 악은 리쾨르가 우려했던 것처럼 이성이라는 불안정한 이론적 개념에 의존하고 있다는 점에서 그것은 여전히 선험적 기만의 배타성을 안고 있다. 필자는 리쾨르가 경험적 범주의 한 특성으로 해석한 악이 이러한 위험성을 비켜서는 대안일 수 있다는 것을 제안하려고 한다. 리쾨르는 악의 발생의 근원적 소재를 이성 이전의 선철학적 상징인 흠, 허물, 죄에서 찾고 있으며, 전통적인 악의 기원을 경험적 범주의 발생적 사건으로 해석하고 있다. 이러한 해석은 선의 결여라는 전통적인 악의 입장을 비켜서려는 중요한 시도일 뿐만 아니라, 흠, 허물, 죄의 본성과 구조가 신체적인 경험을 중심으로 범주화의 갈등적 국면을 견지하고 있기에, 악의 사고와 이해는 대부분 그 바탕에서부터 신체화된 의미의 상상적(은유적) 차이들을 통해 확장된다는 것을 의미한다. 필자는 이러한 악의 해명이 자연적 사실과 엄격하게 분리되었던 전통적인 악의 선험적 순환의 구조를 벗어나게 해줄 것으로 믿고 있으며, 리쾨르의 방법론이 자연주의적 윤리학의 방법론으로 탐색될 수 있는 해석의 가능성도 함께 제안할 것이다.
Abstract
The main purpose of this paper is to empirically explain the possibility and reality of evil asserted by Paul Ricoeur as The Symbolism of Evil through the basic level category(depend on the primary metaphor), which is an experiential viewpoint. The moral dilemma encountered in everyday life is largely associated with evil. Therefore, clarifying the width of evil in terms of its meaning base is a prerequisite to establish a starting point of arguments to explain evil. The symbolism of evil in the history of mentality in western society is one of the irreversible and intellectual accomplishments that originated from the ancient time, but its history and consequences are not as simple. It is in modern days that evil has obtained cogency along with a rational philosophical language but the explanation of evil that started from a modern concept still carries the exclusivity of transcendental deceipt in that it relies on the unstable theoretical concept of reason, about which Ricoeur was concerned. I was going to suggest that the symbolism of evil interpreted by Ricoeur as a characteristic of the empirical category could be an alternative to avoid this risk. Ricoeur sought the fundamental sources of evil in defilement, guilt, sin, which are the pre-rational pre-philosophical symbols and the traditional Symbolism of Evil is interpreted as an occurring event. This interpretation is not only a crucial attempt to escape from the traditional evil stance charactersized by privatio boni but also means the expansion of the thought and understanding of evil from its basis through the imaginary(metaphorical) differences of the embodied meaning as the inherent nature and structure of defilement, guilt, sin maintains the conflicting aspects of categorization centering on physical experience. I believe that this explanation of evil will lead us away from the traditional structure of transcendental circle of evil which was rigorously separated from natural facts and I would like to suggest a possibility of interpretation that Ricoeur's methodology can be explored into based on naturalistic ethics.
