Abstract
This study was to explain the relationships among the sets of social media learning outcomes including social capital building, learning satisfaction, and participation, in order to identify the way of amplifying the effect of social media learning. A total of 79 students who enrolled in a social science course in a university located in urban area participated in social media learning by using Facebook along with off-line lecture for 13weeks. The factor analysis was conducted to extract the factors of social capital building and satisfaction on social learning, and resulted in the four components of trust, expansion, value, connection for social capital building and of effectiveness, utilization, reliability, readiness for satisfaction. The results of cannonical correlation analysis showed the expansion of social relationships had relation with the level of satisfaction on utilization of social media learning, and the degree of putting value in social capital related with the degree of satisfaction on effectiveness. The tendency of making connection to other students had relationship with the level of participation; the satisfaction on effectiveness and utilization showed canonical correlations with the level of participation and response from participation respectively. The results suggested the tendency of expansion, value, connection in social capital building as well as the satisfaction on effectiveness and utilization should be focused with the level and response of participation, due to the positive relationships among these outcomes. Based on the results of this study, future studies such as mediation effect among social outcomes could be suggested.
