Abstract
The educational technology community has the responsibility to open a debate and discuss on the implementation of technologies and its impact in school as well as how it contributes students' learning, competence build up and skill development. The aim of the study was to analyze studies published on ETR&D(Educational Technology Research and Development) between 2011 and 2016 and determine how we can conduct research that is more relevant to the educational technology community. In total, 101 studies were selected for analysis. The results show that: (a) published articles on K-12 schools in ETR&D accounted for approximately 35%. (b) on Scopus an average of citation was 13 and 34 for Google Scholar. However, more than half of the citations were concentrated on 16 to 18 papers. (c) the area that were mostly researched were on design followed by utilization and development. But the most cited papers were mostly made on development and utilization. (d) cross-analyzing the research methodology, most studied type were experimental one, but the case study and mixed methodology were increasing in numbers published in ETR&D. (e) Students were main participants in school related articles and elementary, middle and high school students participated evenly. (f) The last aspect that was analyzed was which scholars were at the forefront on K-12 schools in ETR&D. Based on the outcomes, the implications are discussed in terms of the need to broaden the scale and the approach on future studies as the field of educational technology continues to grow.
