Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to research some applicabilities in the classroom through introducing SOLO taxonomy in instructional situation of geography. SOLO model is valuable as methodological tools for developing quality of learning and assessment in geography, increasing higher order thinking and properly distinguishing learners’ cognitive levels. In the earlier studies, some problems were raised such as the lacking of showing some tools of instructional and evaluational processes which would make higher order thinking or let learners experience them. On the basis of these problems, this paper is started to show some alternatives to them.To solve them, first step is to review theoretical bases of the SOLO model. The next, it is added to ‘extended structural stage (or ex-structural stage)’ which need some explanations in assumed situations or unexpected and additional factors that aren’t sufficiently treated in a ‘relational stage’ ; it seems that extended abstract stage has few probabilities for being brought about in a classroom situation. And the second step is to consider a SOLO-based instruction model that can be applied to practically developing level of teaching-learning activities in geography lesson. At the same time, SOLO-based interpreting of geographical informations would be devised. Also some examples would be shown. Finally, as to a geography assessment, SOLO-based testlets for the ordered outcomes that bring to a point on the sequences and contexts of thinking would be suggested with their cases. These could be great helps for teachers instructing geography in classroom.
