본 논문에서는 지리학습의 필요성을 사회적 필요성과 교육적 필요성으로 분류하여 살펴봤다. 지리학습의 사회적 필요성은, 첫째 지리 지식은 세계화ㆍ지방화 시대와 교통ㆍ통신이 발달한 정보화 사회에서 단지 지식으로서만 존재하는 것이 아니라, 나에게 직접적으로 필요한 지식이 되었다. 둘째, 지리적 문제를 지리 문제로 인식하고, 지리적 관점으로 문제에 접근하여, 해결 방법을 찾을 때 보다 합리적이고 효율적인 해결이 가능하다. 셋째, 우리나라의 관계적 위치는 자신에 대한 지리 지식(한국지리)과 함께, 주변 및 세계에 대한 지리 지식(세계지리)을 바탕으로 한 현명한 대처가 필요한 시점이다. 넷째, 국토를 공유하고 있다는 측면에서의 동질성은 역사에 의한 동질성 보다 더 큰 의미가 있다. 그리고 교육제도적인 한계에서는, 지리교육이 필요성에 비해서 교육과정상에서의 위치와 입시에서의 역할이 축소되는 경향이 있으며, 특히 사회과 통합으로 지리교육의 정체성에 부정적인 영향을 받고 있다.지리학습의 교육적 필요성은, 지리교육내용의 효용성과 인간발달 과정에서의 유용성 그리고 삶에서의 유용성에서 찾을 수 있다. 지리학습은 인간의 경제활동과 사회를 이해하는데 도움을 주며, 삶의 환경인 생태계를 이해하게 해주며, 공간적 차원으로 지적 능력을 확장하여 보다 합리적인 의사결정을 할 수 있도록 도와준다. 인간발달 과정에서는 공간지능을 중심으로 관련 지능이 계발되고 발현되는 기회를 준다. 또한 직업 생활을 원활하게 해주고, 일상적인 생활에 의미를 더해주며, 대인관계를 원활하게 하는데 도움을 준다.
Abstract
This study seeks to necessity of geography learning focus on social and educational aspect. Social necessity of geography learning is that geographical knowledge become directly necessary to me in globalization and localization times. When we recognize a geographical problem as a geographical viewpoint, we can find efficient and rational solution. The homogeneity of the sharing country region has bigger meaning than by the history. Geographical education has the limitation in the role of the entrance examination and curriculum than necessity of society. Especially integration of social studies gives disadvantage to geography education.Educational necessity of geography learning is the usefulness of the geographical education contents, human development process, life as a adult. The geographical study is the aid to understand of economic activities and human society. And we understand the ecosystem as a physical environment, expand the ability to a spatial dimension, it can do the rational decision making. Also geography education gives opportunity the develop and reveal of spatial intelligence. It makes the width of an occupation selection and enable, and add the meaning in usual life.
