본 연구는 지리과 교실수업 평가를 통해 공간적 사고를 평가할 수 있는 평가도구를 개발하려는 것이다. 최근 지리교육 분야에서 공간적 사고에 대한 관심이 높아지면서 공간적 사고를 향상시키는 것이 지리교육의 중요한 목표가 되었다. 공간적 사고란 공간을 점유하고 있는 사물에 대한 공간 정보를 부호화하고 공간적 이미지를 표상하고 변환하며 공간 관계를 추론하고 의사결정을 내리는 일련의 정신 활동을 말한다. 교실수업 평가 방식의 지리과 평가를 통한 공간적 사고의 평가는 종합적인 공간적 사고의 평가가 가능하며, 실제 삶의 맥락 속에서의 평가가 가능하다. 또한 평가의 과정 속에 공간적 사고력을 신장시킬 기회를 제공할 수도 있다. 본 연구는 지리과 교실수업 평가 방식을 통해서 이러한 공간적 사고를 평가하기 위해 총 14개의 평가 문항을 개발하였으며 그것의 타당도를 전문가 평가를 통해 검증하였다. 연구의 결과 교실수업 평가 방식의 지리 평가가 실제 공간적 사고가 발현되는 과정과 유사한 문제 해결과정에서 평가가 이루어질 수 있어 학생들의 삶의 맥락과 연계된 평가가 가능하며 학생들에게 다양한 형태의 공간적 사고를 경험하게 함으로써 공간적 사고를 향상시킬 수도 있다는 점을 보여주었다.
Abstract
In geography education, there is a growing concern for spatial thinking, and fostering spatial thinking is emerging as one of major objectives of geography education. Spatial thinking refers to a series of mental activities that encode spatial information of things occupying a particular space, represent and transform the spatial images of the space, infer the spatial relationship and make a decision. The assessment of spatial thinking through geography evaluation makes it possible to measure comprehensive spatial thinking in association with the real-life context of students, to foster their spatial thinking ability and to employ a variety of evaluation methods. The purpose of this study is development of evaluation items for spatial thinking with classroom assessment. For the purpose of this study 14 items were developed for each of the factors of spatial thinking. And then the validity of the developed items and their applicability into classroom assessment has been verified by experts. Also, in order to check the effectiveness of the items as an assessment tool of spatial thinking, the content validity of the items was verified by experts. The findings of the study suggest that geography education could make a contribution to the improvement of spatial thinking which is essential for human survival.
