Abstract
This study found that an appropriate selection of educational stuff was critical in success of effective geography education and suggested the concept of a divergent nexus as a useful geographical educational stuff which could provoke geographical imaginations to meet various interests and needs of students. It shows that the food is one of the promising educational materials to discover the hidden dimension of geographical education as an divergent nexus.First, main geographical concepts including climate, environment, origin, transportation and diffusion can be developed through food; expecially, commodity chain can be imagined through connecting the production site and the consumers. Cultural issues like creolization, fusion of different cultures, invention of traditions, McDonaldization and delicate local flavors, as well as political economic issues like vertical integration of global ?Agro-food system? and the behaviors and the effects of the MNCs(Multi-National Companies) can be explained nicely if food functions as a divergent nexus in geography education. In addition, it helps empower students to construct their own life worlds by making ecological/systematic approaches through food.
