글로벌푸드/로컬푸드 담론을 통한 장소의 관계적 이해

초록

본 논문의 목적은 세계-국지 연결의 맥락에서 기존의 장소 교육이 갖고 있는 문제점을 지적하고, 관계적 접근을 이용한 대안적 장소 교육의 방향과 모형을 제시하는 데에 있다. 이를 위해 먼저, 현재 고등학교 지리 교과서에 수록된 장소 이해 방식의 특징과 한계를 밝힌다. 그런 다음, 관계적 접근에 기반을 둔 Noel Castree의 장소 개념과 학문적 및 대중적 영역에서 형성되어 온 글로벌푸드/로컬푸드 담론을 이용하여 보다 현실적인 장소를 이해하도록 하는 대안 모형을 제시한다. 마지막으로, 장소 이해를 위해 글로벌푸드/로컬푸드 담론을 이용할 경우 나타날 수 있는 파르마콘적 거래, 즉 그것은 한편으로는 인간주의 지리학의 장소에서 벗어나도록 할 수 있도록 하지만, 다른 한편으로는 그 전통적 장소에 갇히도록 할 수 있다는 점을 강조한다. 하지만 본 논문은 그 딜레마는 장소를 보다 관계적으로, 비판적으로, 성찰적으로 바라보도록 하는 촉매제가 될 수 있다는 것을 주장한다.

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to problemise the existing pedagogy of place in the context of global-local connection and to suggest the direction and model of an alternative pedagogy of place with a relational approach. For this, first, the paper examines the properties and limits of ways to understand places in high school geography textbooks. Then, through using Noel Castree? conceptual framework of place based on the relational approach and global/local food discourses developed in academic and poplar realms, it suggests an alternative model through which to understand more realistic places. Finally, it pays attention to the dilemma of pharmakon that on the one hand global/local food discourses can help teachers and students escape from the place of humanistic geography, but on the other hand the discourses can make them trapped in the conventional place. However, it also argues that the dilemma can be a catalyst with which to see places more relationally, critically and reflexively.
